CONVERSATION ANALYSIS

(Situation: the first person invites the second person to accompany her to go to KFC to buy CD. The other problem is the second person is sleepy and the first person should try to make her wake up and take abath.)

Conversation in boarding house.
1.      Wahyu : (( knock the door)) No:(0,1)pi::(0,2)
2.      Nopi    : hem ((don’t care))
3.      Wahyu : wake up::(0,2) wake up:(0,1)
4.      Nopi    : what yuk?
5.      Wahyu : iihh, why you so.(0,1) sleepy.(0,1) like that
6.      Nopi    : I’m so tired today ((yawn))
7.      Wahyu : you was PROMISE  me, ((so praise)) we have a BIG plan
8.      Nopi    : what time is it?
9.      Wahyu : it’s..(0,2) I lo..(0,2)ok at my.(0,1) watch.(0,1) it.. is 5 pm.
10.  Nopi    : aahh, just 5 pm yuk
11.  Wahyu : yes, but we have BIG plan that we should do NOW. ((Stressing to                 remembering))
12.  Nopi    :                                                                       //((yawn)) wah, what plan is it?
13.  Wahyu : we must to go to KFC
14.  Nopi    : to go to KFC?
15.  Wahyu : yes, because you was PROMISE  me to accompany me to go to buy CD of ARMADA
16.  Nopi    : CD of Armada?
17.  Wahyu : Yes:::
18.  Nopi    : but why we must buy CD of Armada in KFC?
19.  Wahyu : Yes, because em..(0,3) CD of Armada just sold in KFC.
20.  Nopi    : Ump.. (0,1). you fans club of Armada yuk?
21.  Wahyu : aamm::::(0,4) yes of course, eh nonononono. I’m not fans club of Armada
22.  Nopi    :Em..h (0,2) so?                                                                                               
23.  Wahyu : I’m the BIGgest fans of Armada.
24.  Nopi    : haha, the biggest fan s of Armada? REALLY?
25.  Wahyu : yes of course, why you..(0,1) like that. Are you unbelieve what I say?
26.  Nopi    : No no, I don’t thing so. But.. (0,1) ohh there there is a big fans of Armada    is here…..
27.  Wahyu :      //so?
28.  Nopi    : so, you.. tomorrow?
29.  Wahyu : tomorrow? What? We.. we must buy it TOMORROW?,
30.  Nopi    : yes, we buy it tomorrow.
31.  Wahyu :                       //heemm (grumble)) no:(0,1) pi:(0,1) ,I’m want to buy it now, RIGHT now.
32.  Nopi    : wahyu, I’m so sleepy.                                                            
33.  Wahyu : hey, if we don’t buy it right now I afraid if the CD is sold out.
34.  Nopi    : ah wahyu.
35.  Wahyu :ayo c’mon. we will but it in KFC, if you want to accompany me I will hm… treat you everything that you want.
36.  Nopi    : hem, really you will a.. give me everything what I want?
37.  Wahyu : hemm oke
38.  Nopi    :hemm oke oke oke. I want to go to buy the CD of Armada if we buy the CD in KFC. Mm..but give me a lot of time to I will take abath first.
39.  Wahyu : oke I will give you five minutes.
40.  Nopi    : HAH, five minutes? ((surprised and dissagree))
41.  Wahyu : yes,because I know, if you take abath you always :::(0,3) a::((2s) spend a lot of time to do it.
42.  Nopi    : c’mon yuk, I need more time to take abath
43.  Wahyu : nono, take abath is five minutes is so long.
44.  Nopi    : How ((thinking))::::(0,4)am..a..(0,1) ten minutes
45.  Wahyu : ten minutes..(0,2) mm..(2s) it’s oke, but.. please wake up now.
46.  Nopi    : but I want to sleeping  again yuk, just a moment.
47.  Wahyu : please nop.
48.  Nopi    :wahyu
49.  Wahyu :wake up
50.  Nopi    :hem

Analysis:
Nopi is type of lazy people, because in the conversation she is unenthusiasm and she feels sleepy. In the beginning she unenthusiasm and in the middle conversation she gets a few enthusiasm, but in the end she unenthusiasm again. While Wahyu is a type of force people, because everything that she wants must be real. She will do everything to make her desires to be true. And in this conversation, she forces nopi to wake up and accompany her to buy the CD, and she treats her to give what she wants if she wants to accompany her to buy the CD.
From the conversation above, it is can logically to guess what will happen. But there is a context that opposite of the overall. In the beginning, Nopi is so lazy, but if logically she should not to accompany Wahyu to go to KFC, but in this case, she agree to accompany her to do it. It is contrary. And to support the characteristic of Nopi, in the end she makes herself to be lazy again, although she was agree to accompany Wahyu to go to KFC. To proofing this statement, there are any context that show it. In context “hem” (line 2) , “what yuk” (line 4) , “I’m so tired today” (line 6)  and “aahh, just 5 pm yuk” (line 10) they can show if she is lazy. Besides in the middle of the conversation, she agree to join and the evidence is “hemm oke oke oke. I want to go to buy the CD of Armada if we buy the CD in KFC. Mm..but give me a lot of time to I will take abath first.” (in line no 38). And the evidence if Wahyu as force people is “hey, if we don’t buy it right now I afraid if the CD is sold out.” (line 33).
Backchannels
There are any expression that find in this conversation. for example “hem” in line 2, “aahh” in line 10 show that the speaker is uninteresting to the other speaker. In this conversation, the speaker who say it is Nopi, it shows her characteristics. A lazy characteristic. And then “iihh” in line 5 that said of Wahyu show that she dislike it. “wah” in line 12 shows that someone who said it sign that she wonder to something. “em” line 19, “aamm” line 20, “emh” line 22 show that someone who say that doing thinking with hesitation.

Insertion sequence
This conversation has not longer greeting, it just knocking the door, and it contains the main conversation of a situation. The sequence of the conversation are just the speaker one (wahyu) asking the speaker 2 promise to her, and then speaker 2 asking what promise that she did. And then the speaker one give information about the promise, and the speaker 2 respect to her information and agree to do the promise.

Preference structure
A typical preference structure that found in the conversation is the acceptance after forcing. Because the second speaker (Nopi) agrees/ wants to accompany the first speaker after she force and treat her everything that she want. We think that this is the main part of this conversation. 

There are some overlaps in the conversation, they are:
a.       Wahyu : yes, but we have BIG plan that we should do NOW. ((Stressing to                 remembering))
Nopi    :                                                                         //((yawn)) wah, what plan is it? (they are in line of 11 and 12)
When speaker 1 (wahyu) has her role in the conversation, suddenly in the same time the speaker 2 (nopi) overlaps the conversation. It usually the second speaker has feedback of the conversation.

b.      Nopi    : No no, I don’t thing so. But.. (0,1) ohh there there is a big fans of Armada    is here…..
Wahyu :      //so? (they are in line 26-27)
c.       Nopi    : yes, we buy it tomorrow.
Wahyu :                       //heemm (grumble)) no:(0,1) pi:(0,1) ,I’m want to buy it now, RIGHT now. (they are in line 30-31)
From a,b, and c there are same case. The overlaps happen in the last of utterance. When the second speaker start to say something, the speaker one will finish the utterance. but in b context, actually the speaker one (nopi) wasn’t finish her utterance, but when speaker two (wahyu) starts to speak, in a moment Nopi stop her speaking.

There are some pauses in the conversation, they like:
Wahyu : it’s..(0,2) I lo..(0,2)ok at my.(0,1) watch.(0,1) it.. is 5 pm. (it is line 9)
Nopi    : Ump.. (0,1). you fans club of Armada yuk? (it is line 20)
Nopi    :Em..h (0,2) so? (it is line 22)
Nopi    : No no, I don’t thing so. But.. (0,1) ohh there there is a big fans of Armada    is here….. (it is line 26)
Ø  They show that pause is a sign to show a short hesitation when someone have conversation. in any this context, wahyu as speaker 1 has a problem. She always pause her utterance, it can indicate that she need more time and she hesitates of her statement.

There are adjancency pairs, they are:
18.    Nopi         : but why we must buy CD of Armada in KFC?
19.    Wahyu      : Yes, because em..(0,3) CD of Armada just sold in KFC.
20.    Nopi         : Ump: (0,1). you fans club of Armada yuk?
21.    Wahyu      : aamm::::(0,4) yes of course, eh nonononono. I’m not fans club of Armada

This is show of overall of the context, but I give any context to show. The speaker one (Nopi) as a person who asking the information overall of that context above. Here, she is asking information as disbelieve, because she look like disbelieve so she make sure the information by asking it. And the second speaker (Wahyu) as a person who answering/ giving information overall of that context above. She is giving the information with the reason all of the speaker one asking with disbelieve.
